HFA (HumanFree Areas) is a worldwide movement for protection and restoring of natural reservs (ecosystems and species) and important habitats from humans. Our aim is that part (10-50 percent) of the Earth is allowed to restore its ecosystem without human interference.

All now living organisms on earth have evolved together. The climate-system, the habitats and the organisms all affect each other. Human beings already have crowded and exploited most parts of earth leaving few possibilities for other lifeforms to exist. That is why more than 60 percent of the animals and 571 plant species on earth have gone extinct in the last 250 years. Life is being extinguished. Human beings can´t exist alone on earth, we need the plants and animals to survive. And they need their specific habitats to survive. It´s about time we do something about this.

The Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), found that more than one million species are at risk of extinction(see 2019 report). The study was conducted by hundreds researchers around the world and it is the most comprehensive analysis of the bidoiversity of the planet ever. The ecosystems in which they live are also threatened. Some scientists believe the global ecosystem could be near a tipping point for the climate and the biological system.

In ecological research there is broad consensus that one of the first steps to effectively curb climate change is to protect all the world’s natural forests immediately. The soil, the fungi, the trees and other plants continue to store coal for thousands of years. We also need to save vulnerable species – both animals and plants – by protecting their different natural habitats.

A lot of different efforts around the worlds tries to speed the process up – see the list on page Contribute and on page Articles, videos & Books. We would also like to mention the 30×30-movement.
